World Cup 1 The new World Cup season is here and round one was once again in the Kwala-Zulu Natal area of South Africa. The venue for last years World Championships had some major course changes and missed out the famous amphitheater but instead incorporated a much more TV and spectator friendly version, which lost none of its technical toughness it has become renowned for.

The Tree-House rock garden was still a big part of the course but with the course designer moving the rocks and changing the lines it was an intense 4 days of practice for the riders leading up to Sundays race.

World Cup 1 It was to be a day of “firsts” for us as Ben Roff went into his first World Cup in the U23 race and took a very respectable 31st place gaining lots of experience. Ben has only recently finished the Cape Epic and his form is getting better by the day!

The next race was another first with South African sensation, Mariske Strauss taking on her first World Cup as an Elite woman. Mariske has established herself as the best rider in Africa and did her country proud with a 19th position amongst the worlds best.

World Cup 1 In the Elite Men’s race Martin Gujan was our last first, racing his first World Cup for Orange Monkey Pro Team. Martin was right in the mix for the top positions and by his own admission not having the “best legs” on the day still took the teams best ever World Cup result of 23rd position.

By his own high standards David Fletchers start to 2014 hasn’t been up to his usual standard but this changed dramatically when he started the World Cup riding into the top 30 positions before a big crash meant a stop in the technical area. A finish of 52nd didn’t highlight just how good his ride was but was still a respectable position and a sign that this will be the best season yet for England’s most promising Mountain Biker!
